in the last month or two I've begun trolling thrift store bookshelves, and I've probably doubled my book collection since then. it was definitely time to invest in a larger bookshelf, and here are the results :) I'm really glad I found this community, I was going to start one with this precise idea if it hadn't already been done.

1st (top) shelf. that copy of The Canterbury Tales is 65 years old, and the copy of Madame Bovary isn't much younger.shelf 1

second shelf.
that copy of The House of the Seven Gables has a copyright date of 1935 but I can't possibly believe it is that old due to the pristine condition it is in, unless it was kept in an airtight steel box. no, I'm not a neo-nazi, I have a fascination with old books and I'm also a pretty big history buff. that copy of Mein Kampf is 45 years old and I paid $1 for it. the one next to it with no spine is a copy of The Bobbsey Twins in the Country that belonged to my mother as a child.
shelf 2

3rd shelf. I love that my Potter just so happened to fall right in the middle of the middle shelf on my bookcase.
shelf 3

4th shelf, first half is the end of my alphabetized books, the other half is the beginning of my unorganized/miscellaneous books. the copy of War and Peace was another shining moment in my thrifting career.
shelf 4

the rest of my miscellaneous books. the duct taped one is a 1936 illustrated edition of Webster's Dictionary (thrift store again). the one next to it whose spine you can't read is the Children's Picture Bible I was presented with at my baptism as a child. the one about lizards (next to the teen bible) belonged to my uncle as a child, and the Little Visits with God belonged to my mother and aunt. all the other children's books were either mine or my sisters' growing up. I've also developed a recent obsession with literature textbooks, they give you a lot of bang for your buck if you pick them up at thrift stores.

Love the closeups! I have many of the same titles including what is almost certainly the same edition of Bambi's Children.:)
